Footnotes

Robert Elms has 'Footnotes and Queries' on his London show, and it covers the minutae of London Life. How things got here, why a building is in a particular place. Who was the mad bloke in the scruffy hat in the 1950's etc etc. My world is full of footnotes. I collect them here when I can.

    Jerry Pournelle used to write 'Chaos Manor' in Byte. I miss its printed passing. Chaos was like my house, like my life, always a new printer that didnt quite work properly, or a recalcitrant Apple Mac, or a piece of software that really did not work. I think Jerry invented the term 'vapourware'. One of my favourites. I put things in here that I want to share but are more in the Chaos Manor than anywhere else.

    #ibiwisi is a hashtag I put on my tweets where I dont believe the topic at hand - ibiwisi is an acronym for 'I'll believe it when I see it' which I first heard years ago at Lotus. Im not sure of its origins but it was on or about the time of the word processor 'wysiwyg' wars where wysiwyg stood for 'what you see is what you get'.
