I could take a moment to reflect that theres something seriously wrong with Sun because this computer boots to 'grub', has an OpenDOS drivers and tools disk, doesnt have a hostid, doesnt have the firmware environment of the 'old days' etc etc, but I won't because its a great little rackmount server and we dont want to run Solaris on it anyway, but VMware - because we need to host legions of Windows Servers to make our clients application work. So, Once I'd figured out the firmware was the right version using the lights out management utilities, and I'd figured out how to install things on it, I began the installation of VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5 installable (a really snappy product name there I think you'lll agree). You can see the results as a I screen grabbed the install from my Mac running the Redirected Console in Java.
Heres the beginnings of the Installer. Theres something familiar about it I confess. What is it...Im not sure what it is about this but Ive a feeling I was here before, about 20 years ago!Anyway, theres nothing odd about it apart from I couldnt do 'F11' and had to plug in a usb keyboard (good job the server wasnt in a data center yet then).Way cool. It understands and supports the SATA array. And on it goesYes I really do want to install it..Right its installing ESX Server 3iDone. I remember now what it reminds me of.NetWare ! Its just that the console doesnt do much I guess. Its still great though.
