Landscape Messaging

Messages - Sideways - iPhone 3.0

New!Turn your iPhone on its side for Landscape view messaging

The trouble is I can't get used to it. I know its a great feature but I've become one with my iPhone how it was. Must persevere.

Messages - iPhone 3.0 update is available

New!Photo messaging MMS integration with one minimalist button.

The iPhone 3.0 upgrade is available at last on O2. Its a big deal, cementing in place all the learning over the last year or so and some significant improvements. It also has to be bulletproof. Phone OS unreliability on new devlices has haunted other vendors, but not Apple. It needs to stay that way.

As I discover the new features and get a perspective on them I will add my observations to the list here.

Multi-media Messaging (MMS)

I see it. I dont quite believe it. MMS that actually works, is unobtrusive and useful. The main reason for this is that its not called MMS in the user interface and its not hidden away separate from the messaging system. All the other mobile phone OS developers should hang their heads in shame when they see that whats been holding back MMS adoption has been dreadful design without thought to how its used. Im actually going to use MMS now having avoided it like the plague for years and years and years. Look how unobtrusive it is in this my first ever recieved MMS message. Its just 'there' in messaging. No cryptic technical nonsense for me to deal with. To make an MMS message you dont need to think about it or switch any mode or anything like that, you just use the messaging application you already know how to use and add media to it. Brilliant.
