Vista to Mac OS X Server networking

Vista helpfully upgrades its security for server network connections to a level that platforms other than Windows dont necessarily support. So, to make a connection for example to a share on a Leopard Server equipped Mac you need to change a security policy on the client machines.

  1. From Start launch the program "secpol.msc"
  2. Choose Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options
  3. Select "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level"
  4. Change the item's setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
  5. Click OK
  6. Exit
By default Vista is set to "NTVLMv2 responses only"
